What elysia said:

Rachael has been so amazing to work with! She is incredibly professional, delivers her work on time and has remarkable written communication skills.

Unlike a few other writers that I used, Rachael worked hard to learn my voice and I had to do very little editing (if any) to the articles she wrote.

Frequently Asked Questions

If this is your first time hiring a writer, we know it can be intimidating! Let’s make things very simple.

Basically, we just need to know a little bit about your blog and how you like to format your posts. Then, you develop and write your recipe like normal.

Once you send it over, we’ll start fitting it into your preferred post structure and start writing! When the post is done, we’ll send it over however you’d like (Google Doc, saved to your site, etc).

You look it over, make sure you’re happy with it, and then publish it like normal!

Probably! We have a deep knowledge of cooking, baking, and food preservation, covering a range of topics and ingredients. We’ve written about:

  • Cooking from scratch
  • Canning
  • Farm-to-table cooking
  • Keto and low carb
  • Gluten-free baking
  • Baking
  • Healthy recipes
  • Sugar-free
  • Vegetarian & vegan

If you don’t see your niche on the list, please ask! Even if we don’t have a ton of experience with a topic, we’re always happy to learn.

No, we do not currently offer recipe development or photography.

This can be a little confusing, so bear with me!

Food bloggers usually develop their own recipes, and parts of those recipes go into their posts, like the ingredients and steps. They also usually have a basic post structure that they use, which also has words in the headings, etc.

We start by setting up your outline and adding anything you’ve sent us that can be used in the post. Then, we track the starting word count before adding the rest of the content. At the end, we subtract the starting word count from the final word count. This makes it clear exactly how many words we’ve written for you.

We will always hit at least the minimum word count for the post type that you purchase and usually tend to go closer to the maximum (we like to write, what can I say?). If your post requires more words than are covered by the post type you’ve purchased, we’ll track any words over 1,000 at a rate of 10 cents per word.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say you send over the recipe, and the starting word count is 300.

If we’re writing a more thorough, detailed post like a baking tutorial, it might end up being closer to 1,500 words. The recipe post template allows for 1,000 words, and we wrote 1,200. We would then add an additional $20 to your invoice for the extra 200 words.

If you have any questions about this at all, please reach out! We’re happy to talk through any questions or come up with a unique solution for your needs.

Our rate per recipe post is currently $85, which includes 800-1,000 words of content. Each post is written in your voice using your preferred post structure, and will be rated an A++ on RankIQ. Posts are delivered with via Google Doc or delivered directly on your site in a new post set up with your recipe post template (no images or custom post formatting included).

Informational or roundup posts cost $125, which includes 1,250-1,500 words. Just like the recipe posts, these posts are also rated an A++ on RankIQ, including the title. We’ll gladly deliver them to your site or Google Docs, but this price does not include gathering any links, uploading photos, or custom formatting.

We are also happy to work on a set rate of $0.10 per word for shorter or longer content.

Absolutely! SEO is a must these days. We would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t deliver posts that speak to the search engines and your clients.

We always follow best practices regarding headers, keyword implementation, internal links, and more. We also love to make content skimmable and easy to read whenever possible, which tends to work well for everyone!

Our secret weapon is RankIQ, though. Rachael’s been using this tool since 2022, and it makes it so much easier to write posts that rank! Most of our current clients use RankIQ and share access to their accounts with us via LastPass, but this is not required.

Prefer a different tool? We’re quick learners! We’re happy to learn your favorite tool or teach you our favorite tips for using RankIQ.

Since we specialize in food blogging, we know that pretty much every blogger follows some version of the Feast template. However, everyone makes it their own! We ask all of our clients to create a quick one-page outline of their preferred post template that shows where you like to place your headings, font formats, etc.

If you already use a recipe post template on WordPress, you can use this! Basically, we just want to know what you like your posts to look like so each one is consistent!

For one-off posts, we typically have those ready in 5-7 days, and we always let you know an anticipated deadline when we reply to your request.

The monthly packages above work on a weekly deadline. The new recipe posts are delivered on a specific day each week, and the informational or roundup posts are delivered either once per month or every two weeks. If your package includes emails to promote your new posts, those will be provided on the same day as your new posts.

At this time, we can handle 4-6 new posts per client per week. We find about 4 posts per week is just right. Need less? That’s no problem at all.

That’s up to you! We deliver our final posts however you’d like. Most of our clients prefer to have us add them directly to WordPress and save them as drafts. That saves a step for you, so it’s more efficient in general.

In this situation, it’s usually easiest to have a reusable recipe post template that we can add, convert to regular blocks, and then update with the new content. (This is also a great place to get your preferred post outline!) We’re comfortable with Genesis and Kadence and typically work with WordPress blogs.

Other options include sending the post via Google Docs or saving it into your RankIQ account. Prefer something else? Just let us know!

Great question! Rachael holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Masters in Teaching with a certificate in K-8 Education. To become a teacher, she had to take college-level courses in grammar and many, many literature classes with a strong emphasis on writing.

As an educator, she completed graduate-level courses on teaching writing, which she used in her own classroom to teach her elementary students how to write and refine their writing skills.

This is all in addition to her 12 years of experience as a blogger, including working full-time as a professional food blog writer since 2022. During this time, she invested in many courses to advance her knowledge of the field, including Stupid Simple SEO (Mike Futia), List Builder’s Society (Amy Porterfield), Pinteresting Strategies (Carly Campbell), and more.

As Bright Spark Writing grows, we have brought on some amazing writers to help our bloggers keep up with their busy publishing needs. Not only do we vet and train each new writer in our writing method, but we also intentionally seek out the best of the best. Every writer on our team holds a Bachelor of Arts in Writing or English with a history of writing specifically for blogs!
